Description
No. 8, Belvedere Avenue is a detached house dating from 1908, designed by Amos F Faulkner. It is constructed of brick with stone dressings, tile hanging, some half-timbering, and weatherboarding, and has a steeply pitched tiled roof. The design is in a Domestic Revival style. The house is two storeys high, with an additional roof storey. The layout consists of three main bays facing the road, with the bay to the left forming a cross-wing, and the centre and right bays progressively advanced. A central projecting porch features stubby Doric columns and a hipped roof. A projecting canted bay window is situated to the right of the porch, with a corniced top. The windows are timber mullioned, with some transoms, casements, small panes, and glazing bars. To the left, there are two round windows: one with moulded brick dressings and the other with a flush timber frame within a square aperture. A diagonal corner buttress is present. Dormers are visible, along with a window in the right gable. The side returns are also noteworthy. Tall chimneys are a prominent feature.
