Description
The Church of St Matthew, built between 1874 and 1875, is a Grade II listed building designed by architect C L Luck. This church is constructed from squared rubble stone in the Gothic style. It features a nave with north and south aisles, and a square tower at the west end of the south aisle that contains the entrance. The building also includes north and south transepts and an apsidal chancel. The nave consists of four bays with a high clerestory, which has three lancet windows in each bay, as well as in the aisles. The tower is topped with an octagonal stone spire set behind a parapet adorned with corner pinnacles. The windows in the west, north and south transepts, and the chancel all have four lights with geometrical bar tracery. The roofs are steeply pitched and tiled.
