Description

Christ Church, built between 1862 and 1863 by architect C. L. Luck, was lengthened in 1866, with the north chancel aisle added in 1864 and the south chancel aisle in 1871. Designed in the Early English style, the church does not have a tower. It features red brick construction with stone dressings and some black brick voussoirs. The nave includes round clerestorey windows and wide side aisles with lancet windows. The west end has a central doorway with a shaft and a plate-traceried rose window. The lower chancel has a three-lancet east window, and both the north and south chancel aisles have gabled ends. The roofs are tiled, with a stone belfry located at the east end of the nave.

Inside, the nave arcade is supported by columns made of Mansfield stone, which have carved stone capitals. Above the columns, the walls are faced with brick, featuring red and black band courses and window arches. The east window is by Clayton and Bell, while the center window of the north aisle is by Burne Jones. Additional stained glass is provided by Lavers and Westlake.
