Description
The Cross of Sacrifice is a First World War memorial located in Chiswick Cemetery, designed by Sir Reginald Blomfield. It is made of Portland stone and features an octagonal rusticated base that supports an octagonal dressed stone plinth. The socket stone bears the inscription: "This Cross-of-Sacrifice is one in design and intention with those which have been set up in France and Belgium and other places throughout the world where our dead of the Great War are laid to rest." Atop the plinth is an octagonal Latin cross with an attached bronze sword. To the north-east, there is a half-octagonal dwarf wall inscribed with the names of 22 casualties buried at this site.
