Description
Number 280, located in the grounds of Marlborough School, is an early 19th-century building constructed of stock brick and featuring two storeys with a hipped tile roof. The façade includes three windows with flat arches, double-hung sashes, and glazing bars. A stucco entrance porch is adorned with a moulded arch and pilasters, topped with a cornice. On either side of the entrance porch, there is wreath and ribbon decoration in stucco. Access to the modern front door is via three steps.
On the right-hand side, there is a flanking wall with piers and a parabolic arch, along with a stucco string course. The right-hand pier is topped with a stone and stucco pineapple. This building was originally constructed for the steward of the Syon Hill Estate during the Duke of Marlborough's ownership and was formerly known as Pine House. It was once decorated with ornamental pineapples, of which only one remains. Under the tenancy of Mr. John Wilmot, pineapples were cultivated for the London market on the site that is now occupied by the school and playgrounds.
