Description
The memorial to the Pears family, located in Isleworth Cemetery, was created around 1902 by an unknown mason. This elaborate tall monument is made of grey granite and features a twelve-sided base that rises to a circular plinth with three pilasters. Above the cornice, there are six projecting balusters that support a second cornice, which overhangs the balusters. Above this, antefixes with ribs rise over the domed superstructure, topped with a four-armed cross as the finial. The inscriptions commemorate Andrew Pears, who died in 1909, Andrew Pears junior, who died in 1902, and Thomas Pears, who died in 1912 on the SS Titanic. This monument is the most elaborate in the cemetery and reflects a Baroque design, honoring three members of the prominent Pears family, known for their soap manufacturing business nearby. It stands as an exuberant example of the commercial mason's craft and holds historical significance.
