Description

Eynham House and Bedford House are an early 18th-century pair of houses located on Chiswick Mall. They are constructed of brown brick and stand two stories tall, featuring three dormers. The buildings have a slight central projection with a pediment, and their facades are arranged with a 1:4:1 pattern of double-hung sash windows set in reveals, complete with cills and flat arches.

Bedford House has undergone significant alterations. The section immediately west of the porch dates from 1749, as indicated by an inscribed tablet on the north elevation. This part has two stories, a ground floor Venetian window with a mask keystone, and three first-floor windows that also feature a similar central keystone, along with one dormer. Above the porch, there are two long windows. The early 19th-century porch includes five steps leading up, adorned with cast iron railings, a reeded doorcase, a semi-circular traceried fanlight, impost bands, circular plaques in the spandrels, and an entablature with a fluted frieze and a central oblong panel. The left-hand wing of Bedford House is two stories high, with three windows in surrounds, and ground floor windows set in arched panels with keystones and continuous impost bands. The right-hand side features a two-story, three-window bow and has old machine tile roofs and two dormers.

Eynham House remains largely unaltered, except for a modern two-story, five-window wing on the right side, which has windows mainly in architraves and a doorhood supported on brackets, along with an old tile roof. The entrance door is accessed by steps and a rail, and a garden wall is included in the listing.
