Description

Two houses, dated 1858, built for the Duke of Bedford, possibly designed by S.S. Teulon. They are constructed of hammer-dressed limestone with freestone dressings, and have collyweston stone slated roofs. The buildings are two storeys high and run along a north-south axis, with a wide gable projecting to the left of centre. A side stack is situated to the right of the gable, featuring tabled offsets, while a ridge stack and stacks to the rear are present, incorporating moulded courses and ashlar quoins. A closed porch is located on the left-hand side. Parapet gables are topped with stacks. Features include a chamfered plinth and cills. A chamfered four-centred archway leads to a 20th-century panelled inner door (number 20). Ground floor windows consist of one three-light casement and one single-light casement, with wooden ovolo mullions and chamfered stone architraves. Similar two-light and single-light windows are found on the first floor.
