Description
The Grandstand at Uxbridge Lido, built in 1935 by G Percy Trentham, is a two-storey structure designed in the nautical Moderne style. Constructed of concrete, it features a flat roof, metal windows, and painted metal railings on the terrace, viewing platform, and staircases. The ground floor has four fixed windows with metal glazing bars, topped by a flat terrace roof with tubular metal railings. The first floor houses a cafeteria with five almost full-height Crittall windows, predominantly featuring 20 metal lights, and a cantilevered viewing platform above, also with tubular painted metal railings. There are flights of stairs at either end, which also have painted tubular metal railings. This grandstand is believed to be one of only two in the country that includes a cafeteria and is built in the nautical style, the other being the Broomhill Lido in Ipswich.
