Description

This is a terrace of six houses, numbers 37 to 43, built in the second quarter of the 19th century. They form a group with the adjacent numbers 45 to 63. The houses are each three storeys tall with a recessed basement, and have two windows, typical of the period. They are constructed of yellow stock brick, with a stucco frieze, cornice, and parapet. Most of the houses have lost their original cornices due to bomb damage and these have been replaced with simpler versions. The recessed sash windows have glazing bars and are set within stucco surrounds. The ground floor is stuccoed with rustication and a blocking course that serves as the sill band for the first-floor windows. The ground-floor openings are round-arched, with moulded architraves, keystones, and impost blocks. The doorways feature four or six panel doors with cornice heads and semicircular fanlights. Number 37 has small cast iron balconies to the first-floor windows.
