Description
Number 68, including the forecourt wall, railings, and gate, is a mid-18th century building that stands two storeys tall with an attic and basement, featuring five windows. It has a slate roof with end chimneys and three flat-headed dormers. The building is constructed of red brick, adorned with a cornice band and a parapet. There are brick angle pilasters and a band at the first floor level, along with gauged, flat brick arches above the sash windows, which have glazing bars in flush frames and wooden cills.
An early 19th-century Doric prostyle porch is present, although its columns have recently been replaced with square concrete posts. A flight of seven stone steps leads up to the porch, with wrought iron handrails, over a semicircular gauged brick arch. Additionally, a square, three-window bay has been added at the ground floor on the right side. The forecourt wall is made of multicoloured stock brick with stuccoed coping, featuring end piers topped with ball finials. The property is enclosed by plain wrought iron railings and a gate with a scrolled overthrow.
All the listed buildings on the west side of Crooms Hill, from numbers 54 to 68, form a group.
