Description

Goldsmiths College Hall, on Westcombe Park Road, dates from the mid-19th century. The building is comprised of a central block with two windows, flanked by recessed sections each with a single window. It is constructed of stucco and has a low-pitched slate roof with subsidiary hips to the side sections, featuring deep eaves with paired brackets. Stuccoed chimneys incorporate bracketed cornices. Broad, flat pilasters on the axis and at angles of the central block and side wings sit above a basement plinth. A cill band runs along the first floor. The first and second floors feature recessed sash windows with glazing bars, and the first-floor windows are topped with cornices on anthemion-moulded brackets. The ground floor has long casements with transoms. Prostyle-Doric porches lead to five-panel doors with plain fanlights, with the porch entablature continuing with the ground floor entablature of the side sections. Narrower windows have been added to the inner angles of the side sections. Later brick extensions are set well back on both sides.
