Description
Brooklyn is a two-storey building constructed in 1887 by Mackmurdo. It features three windows on the first floor and six on the ground floor. The first floor slightly overhangs and is supported by seven pilaster buttresses of alternating depth. The deeper buttresses extend through the ground floor entablature and create plinths at the first floor cill level, where small carved figures are positioned. Moulded strings run along the cill and lintel levels of the first floor. Above these, there is a moulded cornice and a parapet adorned with ball finials. All windows are casements with glazing bars, and the ground floor window surrounds display high reliefs of figures and fruit made from terra-cotta, with similar reliefs on the capitals of the pilasters. The entrance on the right side is considered insignificant. The walls have been pebble-dashed, and the entire building is covered in cream cement paint, leaving little of the original work visible inside, except for a screen of three shallow, elliptical arches in the hall.
