Description

Corrib Court, formerly Michendon Lower School, is a former school building of 1910, designed by H.G. Crothall. The building is constructed of red brick with stone dressings and a pitched tiled roof extending to a parapet. It comprises an eight-bay centre block with slightly projecting bays on either side, treated as towers and each topped with a cupola, alongside lower, two-storey projecting wings to the left and right, featuring hipped gables and Diocletian windows in the roof.

The central block has round-headed windows on the ground floor with stone architraves and tripartite designs incorporating timber mullions. The upper storey is characterised by pilaster strips between windows, rising above the parapet line to an arched coping, with tripartite fenestration. A square-headed entrance is set within the tower bays, featuring arched overlights and long arched three-light mullioned and transomed windows above. The outer projecting bays are each three windows wide, with a square-headed window set within a stone panel. The windows are sash windows with glazing bars, and prominent keystones are present. Square-headed dormers are found on the central block; a central pair of dormers are linked by an arched stucco panel depicting a draped female figure seated. The centre block and bays each have domed cupolas. The returns show arched half dormers and stone mullioned and transomed oriels.
