Description

70 to 76 Forty Hill is a small terrace of cottages built in 1833. Each cottage is two storeys high and has two windows. The terrace features a low-pitched, hipped roof covered with slate and has eaves soffits. The cottages are constructed from yellow brick with red brick dressings. They have gauged brick flat arches over sash windows that include glazing bars, and there are round arches over recesses where the ground floor windows are located. The windows have stone cills, and there are round arches above the doors, although the doors themselves are modern. Number 74 has modern windows and has lost its glazing bars. There are blank panels above the doors, and a plaque at the centre of the first floor reads "COTTAGE PLACE 1833". This terrace is included for its group value with The Hermitage and the attached Stable Building, along with their forecourt walls.
