Description
The Featherstone Boys School War Memorial is a tribute designed by William Thomas Curtis, FRIBA, with a sculpture by John Tweed, and was unveiled on 16 February 1921.
The memorial features a Portland stone wall that is divided into three parts and has a canted shape. It is topped with a projecting stone cornice that protects the inscriptions. Atop this structure is a small tapering stone plinth, which supports a bronze figure of a soldier leaning on his rifle. Below the cornice, there is a bracket with a carved wreath hanging from it. The memorial is positioned on a single stone step. The inscription reads: "TO THE GLORIOUS MEMORY OF/ (NAMES)/ OLD BOYS OF THIS SCHOOL/ WHO FELL IN THE WAR 1914 – 1918/ THEIR NAME LIVETH FOR EVERMORE."
