Description

The main front block of the Hoover Factory, built between 1932 and 1935 by Wallis, Gilbert and partners, is a notable example of industrial architecture. Constructed from reinforced concrete, it features large areas of glazing and decorative elements in coloured tiles. The building has two main storeys and a set-back roof storey, with a wide elevation consisting of 15 bays and five-storey end staircase towers. The central entrance is recessed and designed in an Egyptian Art Deco style, complete with an elaborate coloured tympanum above the doors. This factory is considered one of the most significant and attractive examples of its kind from this period. Buildings numbered 3 and 5 are not of special interest.
