Description
The Church of St Mary the Virgin, located on Perivale Lane, is a Grade I listed building that likely dates back to the 13th century, with a west tower added in the 16th century and a south porch from the 17th century. The church underwent restoration in 1875, which included a new chancel arch and a refaced east wall. It is an aisleless structure made of ragstone-rubble with some flints, and it is cement rendered. The dressings are made of Reigate stone, and the east wall is constructed of ragstone. The three-storey west tower is weatherboarded and topped with a tiled pyramid roof, featuring a sundial dated 1818. The roofs of the nave and chancel are also tiled. The nave roof, dating from the 15th century, includes king-posts, cambered tie-beams, and four-way struts. There is a 'low-side' window from the 13th century in the south wall of the chancel. The northeast nave windows, which are either late 15th or early 16th century, consist of two cinquefoil lights set in square hood-moulded heads. The chancel arch is moulded and supported by short corbelled shafts with foliage capitals. The east window is a three-light design in the decorated style from the late 15th century. Inside, there is an octagonal font from the late 15th century with an oak cover dated 1665, a brass from 1505, and several wall monuments from the 17th century. The church is currently redundant.
