Description

Havelock Hall is a former gymnasium built in 1854-1855 for the Honourable East India Company. It is constructed from brick with stone dressings and features a pitched roof with stone-coped gables and kneelers. The west front is a single storey with three bays divided by pilaster strips. It has a central doorway with a colourwashed doorcase that includes moulded imposts and a cornice hood. On either side of the doorway are single blind windows with rubbed brick flat arches and stone cills that rest on dentilled brick bands. Above the gable, there is a central 20th-century window with a rubbed brick segmental arch and stone cill.

The south elevation consists of eight bays, also divided by pilaster strips, and features a rubbed brick blind arcade with semicircular-headed window openings, each with stone cills resting on dentilled brick bands. The original semicircular-headed windows have been replaced with 20th-century versions. The north elevation has a similar design. Havelock Hall was previously known as Addiscombe Hall and served as the gymnasium for the East India Company's Addiscombe Military Training College, which opened in 1809.
