Description
The Whitehorse Manor School War Memorial is a commemorative structure made of Portland stone. It features a square base supporting a smaller square plinth that culminates in a pyramid shape. The upper section displays a carving of a standing white horse. The main plinth has an inscription in black lettering that reads: "THIS MEMORIAL IS DEDICATED TO THE GLORIOUS MEMORY OF THE OLD SCHOLARS OF THE WHITEHORSE ROAD COUNCIL SCHOOL WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES FOR THEIR KING AND COUNTRY IN THE GREAT WAR 1914 - 1919." Below this inscription, in lower case, is a quote from Lord Byron's poem 'Childe Harold's Pilgrimage': "Immortal, though no more; though fallen, great."
