Description
The Old Oxgate is a building located on Coles Green Road, dating from the 16th and 17th centuries. It features a timber-framed and plastered structure with some brick rebuilding. The building consists of two parallel ranges; the northern range is likely from the 16th century, while the southern range is from the 17th century, culminating in a double gable end facing the road. It stands three storeys high, with one window per floor under each gable, although the left side at the ground floor has been rebuilt in brick. The main front, which faces south towards the garden, is at right angles to the road and has two storeys with two windows and a central door that is sheltered by a wooden porch. The roof is tiled, and the windows are three-light sashes. Inside, the ground floor room features moulded and chamfered beams, along with a floor made of large flagstones. The Old Oxgate is listed as Grade II* because it is likely the oldest surviving house in the borough.
