Description
Welsh Harp Bridge, also known as Cool Oak Bridge, is a road bridge over the river, built around 1835. It is constructed of brown brick laid in English bond, with engineering bricks used for the coping and stone pilaster caps.
The exterior of the bridge features identical north and south sides, each with nine bays defined by pilaster strips. There is a platband at deck level, and three central semicircular brick arches span the Brent Reservoir. The pilasters are topped with pyramid caps made of millstone grit at the parapet level, and the coping consists of bricks laid on edge. The parapet slopes at the east and west ends.
Historically, the river Brent was dammed in 1835 to create a reservoir that supplied water to the Grand Union Canal, leading to the rebuilding of an older bridge at this location.
