Description
The Bothy is a garden structure completed in 1882, located on East End Road in Finchley. It was built when Henry Stephens landscaped the grounds of Avenue House. Constructed of massed concrete, the structure consists of a rectangular arrangement of garden walls approximately 12 feet high, featuring triangular buttresses at regular intervals. The west side includes a projecting central porch with a round-headed arch surrounded by a Gibbs surround, and there are four octagonal towers at each corner topped with Moorish style triangular crenellations. The center of the east front features a two-storey house with a parapet in the Moorish style, also adorned with triangular crenellations, an arched entrance, and casement windows, which served as living accommodation for the gardeners. This house is flanked by single-storey buildings with arched openings, likely used for storing carts and gardening equipment.
