Description
14 and 16 Temple Fortune Hill are artisans' cottages built in 1908-1909 by Barry Parker and Raymond Unwin. The cottages feature painted pebbledash over a brick plinth and have tiled roofs with gabled returns that show exposed purlins at the eaves and swept eaves on the front and rear walls. They are two storeys high and have a two-window range. The rectangular elevation is enhanced by architectural features common in the Hampstead Garden Suburb, including a pair of gable-facing half dormers and a small catslide dormer with two square windows on the upper slope of the roof at the party wall. The entrances are located on either side of the party wall, set within porches that have angled returns leading into a deep, canted bay. Each return has an axial stack on the front slope of the roof. These cottages form a group with Nos. 1-35 (odd) and 2-36 (even) Temple Fortune Hill, contributing to the original artisans' quarter designed by Unwin, which emphasizes a cohesive streetscape made up of various distinct building types.
