Description

Houses, built in 1910-11, designed by Barry Parker and Raymond Unwin. They are painted pebbledash with brick detailing in a Flemish bond pattern, with brick stair towers and tile flat courses. The roofs are tiled. The houses are two storeys high. The architects adapted a single-ended hall house design, incorporating a facing gable, to negotiate an awkwardly angled corner. This pattern is mirrored in the pair at numbers 221 Hampstead Way and number 7 Farm Walk. Number 217 features a three-window facing gable, while the 'hall' range is split between numbers 217 and 219. Number 219 has a four-window range with a canted stair tower between the third and fourth ranges, topped by a pierced parapet with square stair lights to the half landings. The windows have flat arches, with one, two, and three lights, in a deliberate design. A console porch at the corner serves as the entrance for number 217, and a similar porch to the left of the stair tower provides access to number 219. Tile weatherings are present at the ground-floor openings, and the first-floor windows are situated close to the eaves. Axial ridge stacks are positioned to the right of number 217's entrance and in line with the stair tower of number 219. An outshut in two sections is located at the rear of number 217. One section closely resembles a part of numbers 221 Hampstead Way and number 7 Farm Walk, and contributes to the polygonal street plan of Hampstead Way, situated in the original artisans’ quarter.
