Description
The Mond Mausoleum, located at St Pancras and Islington Cemetery, is a Grade II listed structure built in the early 20th century by architect Darcy Braddell. It is designed based on the Temple of Memesis in Rhamnus and constructed from grey granite and Portland stone. The mausoleum features fluted Ionic columns arranged distyle in antis beneath a pediment. Behind these columns are bronze doors, which are also topped with a pediment and adorned with acanthus acroteria decoration, with granite seats on either side. The side walls each contain three square 9-light windows. The entire structure is elevated on a platform consisting of ten steps. The mausoleum is the final resting place of Ludwig Mond, an industrial chemist who lived from 1839 to 1909, and who left his collection of Italian Old Masters to the National Gallery.
