Description

Nos 21 and 22 Grosvenor Street are terrace houses built in 1898 by Balfour and Turner. They feature red brick and Portland stone with a slate roof, showcasing a carefully composed Arts and Crafts free style. The buildings rise five storeys and have five window bays arranged in a rhythm of three by three. The ground floor is painted and includes a canopy over the wide central entrance. A bracketed cornice is present at the first floor level, which has six sash windows framed by a pilastered arcade. The second and third floors feature sash windows linked horizontally by flush stone banding. Above, a simplified bracketed cornice is located below the top floor, which has pilastered windows arranged in a rhythm of four by four. There are two gables with altered windows and a balustrade on the eaves. The area railings and rainwater heads display good Arts and Crafts detailing.
