Description

This is a terrace of houses located on Lisson Grove, dating from around 1820 as part of the Portman Estate development. The terrace is set back from the street behind gardens. The houses are constructed of stock brick with channelled stucco to the ground floors, and have slate roofs which are hidden behind parapets. The design is symmetrical, with the central pair of houses slightly projected forward and emphasised by a giant pilaster order. The terrace is three storeys high with a basement. Each house front has two windows. A semicircular arched doorway is located centrally and also to the right of the terrace; these doorways feature panelled doors, moulded jambs and fanlights. The upper floors contain recessed sash windows with glazing bars, set beneath flat, gauged arches. The central pair of houses have semicircular arched windows on the first floor, with panelled stucco tympanums above. A plat band runs above the ground floor, and stucco giant Ionic pilasters rise from the ground floor to a corniced and blocking course on the centre pair of houses. A cast iron balcony with a geometric pattern is positioned across the first floor. Iron spearhead area railings are present. This terrace is part of a larger range which includes numbers 97 to 127 (odd) on Lisson Grove.
