Description

This is part of a terrace of town houses, dating from around 1750 to 1760. The building is constructed of brown brick with a slate roof. It has four storeys and a basement, with a dormered mansard roof. A doorway on the left has a panelled door set within an Ionic columned doorcase. The ground floor windows are recessed sash windows with glazing bars, while the upper floor windows are sashes and casements, all set beneath flat, gauged arches. A stone cornice runs above the second floor. The building has a parapet with coping. A first-floor balcony is made of early 19th-century cast iron with a Gothic pattern. The wrought iron area railings have torch finials and scrollwork lampholders.

The interior retains much of its original decoration, including fielded and ovolo moulded panelling, moulded cornices (some with egg and dart detailing), marble chimney pieces with flanking orders and figured tablets, and a stone staircase with wrought iron balusters featuring scrolled splatwork. The top landing is cantilevered and supported by well-carved console brackets. The first-floor landing includes a lobby with chinoiserie wallpaper dating from around 1800, featuring a kiosk in a landscape setting. The ground floor front parlour contains two painted panels depicting Claudian and Hubert Robert ruin landscapes.
