Description

This is a terrace of houses numbered 36 to 54, Eaton Place, located in the City of Westminster. The terrace dates from the early to mid-19th century. The houses are constructed of stucco with slate mansard roofs. The central pair and the end houses project slightly forward. The ground floors exhibit channelled detailing, except for numbers 50, 52, and 48. Each house features a Doric projecting porch and is arranged over three storeys with an attic, a mansard attic, and a basement. Each house has a width of three windows. A balustraded balcony is present on the first floor; the original ironwork has been replaced on numbers 38, 40, 42, and 46. Architraves are present to the window surrounds, except at numbers 38, 40, and 42, where they appear to have been removed. First floor cornices are present, except at houses 38, 40, and 42. The windows are primarily sashes, with some retaining glazing bars. First-floor French casements are also present. A dentil cornice sits above the second floor, and a subsidiary cornice defines the attic. A parapet tops the building. The terrace is enclosed by cast iron area railings with spearhead detailing.
