Description

The Spanish Embassy, at No. 24 Belgrave Square, is a mansion dating from around 1840 to 1850, designed by Henry E. Kendall. The building is constructed of stucco, with a roof that is not visible. It is an example of Graeco-Roman style architecture. The central three-storey section features five bays, flanked by two-storey wings of three bays each. A central three-bay porch is present, with paired Greek Gothic columns. The ground floor is characterised by channelling. The windows are square-headed and architraved, with a triplet of windows to the first floor centre, surmounted by a pediment incorporating an applied Corinthian order. The windows contain sashes with some original glazing. A balustraded parapet tops the building. The interior has not been inspected. The embassy is an integral element of the Belgrave Square development.
