Description

Nos 44 to 48 Princes Gate is a grand terrace of houses built in the mid-19th century. The buildings are constructed from stucco and feature four storeys plus an attic and basement. Each house is three windows wide and has projecting Doric porches, with the entrance to No 48 located in a grand return to the right. The ground floors have channelling, and the corners are accentuated with rusticated quoins.

The first floor windows are square-headed and sit beneath an entablature, with Ionic half columns between them and a balustraded balcony. The second floor windows are united by an entablature and a central pediment for each house, featuring round-headed windows below. The third floor windows are segmental-headed, with Corinthian half columns positioned between them. The terrace is topped with a richly detailed modillion cornice and arched attic windows, along with a subsidiary cornice. The windows are sashes with plate glass, and there are cast iron area railings.
