Description
A grand terrace of houses at 14 to 25 Princes Gate, in the City of Westminster, was built in the mid-19th century to designs by H L Elmes. The terrace is constructed of stucco, with visible rusticated quoins on the slightly projecting end pairs. The building rises five storeys above a basement, with each house originally three windows wide, except for number 14, which has four. The ground floor features channelling, while the first floor has projecting Ionic porches and balustraded balconies. Corinthian half columns and pilasters frame the first-floor windows, with the centre window topped by a pediment. The windows are square-headed sash windows with plate glass. Elaborate stucco work is visible in the attic, and the main cornice above the fifth storey is rich, although it has been simplified on some of the houses. Number 14 is of a slightly different design than the rest of the terrace. Original cast iron area railings are also present.
