Description
Nos 20 to 26 Wellington Street are a row of terrace houses with shops, built between 1833 and 1835 by Samuel Beazley. The buildings are constructed of stock brick with stucco dressings and feature a slate roof. They rise to four storeys with dormered mansards. The façades vary: No 20 has a two-window front, No 22 has a one-window front, No 24 has a two-window front, and No 26 has a three-window front with a three-window return. Each house has panelled doors with fanlights, mainly positioned to the right, and these are integrated into wooden shop fronts that include pilaster strips and console brackets supporting projecting cornices over fascias. Notably, No 20 features a segmental arched display window flanked by colonettes. The upper floors are adorned with square-headed recessed glazing bar sashes set within stucco architraves. There are stucco plat bands at the first and third floors, along with a stucco frieze and a crowning cornice topped with a blocking course. A continuous cast iron balcony spans the first floor.
