Description

This is a block of terraced houses located at 4-12 Lower Belgrave Street and 16 Ebury Street, built in the early 19th century. The building is constructed of stucco, with the original roofline obscured. It rises to three storeys and an attic. The houses originally had two windows per property, with the exception of the corner houses which have one. Number 16 has a four-bay return frontage to Ebury Street and a rounded corner with an entrance.

The Lower Belgrave Street facade presents a balanced terrace; the corner houses project slightly with coupled giant pilasters which rise through the first and second storeys – these are Doric on the right and Corinthian on the left. Corinthian pilasters are also placed between the houses. The ground floor incorporates mainly 20th-century shops. The upper floors originally featured square-headed architraved sash windows with glazing bars on the first floor, and French casements above. A cornice runs above the second floor, with a subsidiary cornice above the third floor, and a parapet above that.

The elevation facing Ebury Street is also designed as a balanced composition, featuring pilasters.
