Description

No. 7 Upper Wimpole Street is a terraced town house built around 1896. It features plum brick with painted dressings and rubbed red brick window arches, topped with a slate roof. The building is designed in a Free Style Georgian Revival manner, showcasing a rational expression of stair windows at different levels on the right side. It stands four storeys tall, with a dormered mansard roof and a basement, and is three windows wide.

The semicircular arched doorway is located to the left and is topped with a barrel vaulted hood supported by horizontal console brackets and short Tuscan columns on brick pedestals. There is a side light to the left of the doorway and an oculus to the right, beneath corbelled canted oriel stair windows that rise through two storeys to a swept parapet. Above, a semicircular arched window features squat columns set in reveals that support the arch.

Above the doorway, a large Venetian window is flanked by Tuscan columns, with two recessed sashes on the two floors above, all under flat gauged arches with keystones. The building is crowned with a console bracketed cornice. There are also two tripartite dormers, each with cornices and segmental pediments. The area is enclosed by Arts and Crafts cast iron railings, which have miniature urn finials and enriched panel standards.
