Description
TQ 2881 NW and NE CITY OF WESTMINSTER UPPER WIMPOLE STREET, 44/15; 45/33 (East side) W1 No 7 5.2.70 G.V. II Terraced town house, c1896. Plum brick with painted dressings and rubbed red brick window arches; slate roof. Free Style Georgian Revival with rational expression of stair windows at different level to right. 4 storeys, dormered mansard and basement. 3 windows wide. Semicircular arched doorway to left with barrel vaulted hood on horizontal console brackets carried by short Tuscan columns set on brick pedestals. Side light to left and oculus to right beneath corbelled canted oriel stair windows rising through 2 storeys to swept parapet and with semicircular arched window above with squat columns set in reveals and carrying arch. Above doorway there is a large Venetian window with Tuscan columns, and 2 recessed sashes, under flat gauged arches with keystones, to each of the 2 floors above. Console bracketed crowning cornice. 2 tripartite dormers with cornices and segmental pediments. Arts and Crafts cast iron area railings with miniature urn finials and enriched panel standards.
