Description

This is a row of three houses, numbered 2 to 4, located on Lyall Street in the City of Westminster, with a mews arch attached to the south side. The houses date to the mid-19th century and are constructed of stucco, with the roofs largely hidden. Number 3 has a mansard attic roof, giving it five storeys, while the others have four. Each house has a projecting, unfluted Doric porch. A balustraded balcony is present on the first floor. The windows are square-headed with architraves above the ground floor, pediments above the first floor, and cornices above the second floor. They are sash windows, with some retaining original glazing bars, and one first-floor window consists of a French casement. A console cornice runs above the fourth floor, and the houses have a balustraded parapet, except for Number 4. Cast iron area railings with spearheads are also present. Number 4 has a return to the left. Attached to the south is a segmental-headed stucco mews arch. A plaque commemorates Thomas Cubitt (1788–1855), who lived at Number 3.
