Description
Nos. 10 to 12 Little College Street are a group of terraced houses dating from approximately 1895 to 1900. They are constructed of dark red brick with stone dressings, topped with slate roofs. This early example demonstrates a sympathetic approach to infilling, blending Queen Anne and neo-Georgian architectural styles. The houses are three storeys high, with basements and dormered mansards. Each front has three windows, closely spaced. Entrances are located on the right side, set within arched openings. The ground floor windows of Nos. 11 and 12 are semicircular arched, with recessed sashes, while No. 10 features a tripartite sash under a basket-handle arch. First floor windows have recessed sashes beneath segmental arches; the second floor windows have flat, gauged arches. Decorative swagged aprons are found below the ground floor and second floor windows, and blind balustrades are incorporated into the first-floor windows. The building features brick plat bands and a dentil cornice below a parapet with coping. Original wrought-iron area railings are present. The side elevation of No. 10, visible from Cowley Street, is three windows wide and incorporates similar detailing. The buildings are listed for their architectural interest as a sensitive example of early 20th century infill and for their contribution to the wider group value of the surrounding area.
