Description

This is a row of early 19th-century houses on Chester Street, situated in the City of Westminster. The buildings are constructed of brick with stucco detailing to the ground floor. The roofs are not visible. The houses are generally four storeys high, although numbers 19, 20, 22, 25, 26, 27, 30, 31 and 32 have five storeys. The arrangement is two windows wide, with numbers 21, 22, 23, 28, 31 being three windows wide. Steps lead to the entrances, which are round-headed (except for numbers 21 to 23 and 28 to 32, which are square-headed). The entrances have various panelled doors. The ground floor windows are arched, except for those at numbers 21 to 23 and 28 to 30. Continuous iron balconies run across the first floor. The upper floor windows are square-headed and mainly sash windows with glazing bars. The buildings have parapets and iron area railings. This row possesses group value by contributing to the streetscape.
