Description
This is a mid-19th century terrace of houses located on the north-east side of Talbot Square in central London. The building is constructed of stuccoed brick, with the ground floor channelled to give the appearance of ashlar. The roof is hidden behind a parapet. The terrace is four storeys high, with an attic and basement. It consists of twelve bays, with numbers 10 and 12 projecting forward to create a central feature. Quoins are visible on the projecting sections and at number 18. Tuscan porches with modillioned cornices are incorporated into the design. The windows are predominantly tripartite sashes, with details varying by floor. A balcony on the first floor has lost its original balustrade. Casement windows are situated within round-arched surrounds featuring pilasters and pediments. Second-floor windows are segment-arched sashes with consoles and cornices, while third-floor windows are segment-arched, sashed within keyed architraves and cornices. Attic windows have glazing bars and are set within keyed architraves. Numbers 10 and 12 feature windows grouped in threes on the second and third floors. The building is topped by a panelled parapet, and has iron basement railings. Number 2 was undergoing renovation at the time of the survey. The terrace, together with numbers 1-13 on the opposite side of the square, represents the surviving part of a grand design extending towards Sussex Gardens.
