Description
196B and C Craven Road is part of a terrace built in the 1840s, likely designed by W King and W Kingdom. The building is constructed of brick, with a stuccoed and channelled ground floor, and features a concealed roof. It stands four storeys tall, including a basement and attic, with a symmetrical design that includes a central breakforward of 12 bays, flanked by a further breakforward of 6 bays and 16-bay ranges on either side, where the four outer bays project slightly.
The building has rusticated quions at each breakforward and features projecting Tuscan porches next to tripartite windows, which are primarily sashed. A balcony with raised balusters is located on the first floor. The round-arched casement windows are flanked by pilasters and have moulded archivolts, while the second floor contains sashes, some with glazing bars, set in eared architraves. A sill band is present on the third floor, with sashes or casements in pilaster surrounds. The cornice features modillions on the central bays, and the attic windows have eared surrounds.
