Description

A terrace of houses located on St George’s Drive in the City of Westminster, built in the mid-19th century. The buildings are constructed from stucco, with the roof not visible. The terrace comprises four storeys and a basement, and most sections have two windows wide, although the central three houses and the end houses project slightly, each with three closely spaced windows and rusticated quoins. Rustication is present on the ground floor. The houses feature projecting Ionic porches and a first-floor balustraded balcony. Architraves are above the ground floor windows. The first-floor windows have segmental pediments, while the second-floor windows are corniced. A unifying pilaster treatment, with Doric columns to the first floor and Ionic columns to the second floor, is found on the central and end houses. The third-floor windows of these houses are arched. The windows are sash, with plate glass and some French casements. A console cornice with swags sits above the third floor, topped by a balustraded parapet that survives on numbers 33 to 39. The returns to the right and left of the terrace are noteworthy. The overall design is lively.
