Description
The Eccleston Hotel is a row of large houses that has been converted into a hotel. Built in the mid-19th century, it is part of Eccleston Square, which was laid out starting in 1835. The building is constructed of stucco, with the roof not visible. Each house in the row is three windows wide, while the hotel section features five windows. The structure has five storeys and a basement, presenting a symmetrical block with the inner six bays recessed and the outer bays featuring rusticated quoins. The ground floor exhibits rustication, and there are projecting Doric porches. A continuous balustraded balcony spans the first floor. The windows are square-headed, with architraves above the ground floor, pediments on the first floor, segmental shapes in the central bays, and triangular shapes in the outer bays. The second floor windows have cornices, and Nos 79 and 80 have pediments. The windows are sashes with glazing bars, and there are French casements on the first floor. The building is topped with a modillion cornice and a parapet. It is an integral part of the planned layout of Eccleston Square, effectively closing off the northern end.
