Description
No. 7 Dering Street is a Grade II listed building, constructed around 1904 by Treadwell and Martin. It features a commercial space on the ground and first floors and is faced with ashlar stone. The design is a blend of Free Gothic and Flemish styles, with elements of the Arts and Crafts movement. The building stands four tall storeys high, with the ground and first floors dominated by a full-width shop and display windows, which are framed by piers with foliated capitals and a prominently moulded elliptical arch that has a cartouche keystone. This arch supports a cornice hood from which a pair of slender ribs extend to the full height of the facade, framing a gable window. Above the first floor, the two-bay elevation is flanked by bold shafts that rest on carved corbels and are topped with domical caps. There are shallow oriel windows on the second and third floors, each topped with curvilinear hood moulds on consoles. The steep gable features a tabernacle design at its apex.
