Description
No. 16 Clifford Street is a terrace house built in 1723 by Timbrell and Stallwood. The building features a brown brick exterior and a slate roof, standing three storeys tall with a basement and a dormered attic. It is four windows wide. The ground floor includes a wooden doorcase on the right, which has panelled reveals, carved consoles, and a moulded cornice, along with three wide altered windows that have segmental arches. The upper floors are fitted with flush framed sash windows that do not have glazing bars, and these are adorned with red brick segmental arches and dressings. There are red brick plat bands between the floors and below the parapet. Mid-19th century cast iron area railings are present as well. Inside, the house retains a panelled entrance hall and staircase featuring shaped carved tread ends, columnar newels, and turned balusters. This property is part of the Burlington Estate.
