Description
No 20 Nassau Street is a terrace house built between 1760 and 1770. It features brown stock brick with a rusticated stucco ground floor and a slate roof. The building has four storeys, a basement, and a dormered mansard, with three windows across its façade. The entrance is located to the left and consists of a six-panel door topped by a semicircular arched fanlight. The ground floor sash windows have flat arches with rustication. The upper floors are fitted with recessed sashes, which do not have glazing bars, and are set under flat gauged arches. A stucco panel runs across the second floor below the window sills, and there is a parapet with coping at the top. The property is enclosed by wrought iron area railings. Inside, the house retains original cornices and a geometrical staircase featuring cut bracket strings and a well-crafted wrought iron balustrade with enriched reverse S panels. The mouldings are detailed yet restrained, complemented by delicate friezes.
