Description
All Souls' Church Day School is a school building constructed in 1908 by A. Beresford-Pite. It is made of stock brick with purple brick bands and a diaper pattern, showcasing an austere yet distinctive style typical of Beresford-Pite. The building features three tall storeys and a basement, topped with a flat roof, and is designed in a 3 x 3 x 3 bay layout.
The outer tripartite bays have segmental arched glazing bar sash windows that are recessed in a very narrow giant arcade that is flush with the wall plane. The broader central section includes wide semicircular windows on the ground floor with stepped reveals, segmental arched windows on the first floor, and flat arched windows on the second floor, all recessed within a giant pilaster order that slightly projects from the wall plane. The pilasters are adorned with free Neo-Grec Ionic capitals made of carved stone and support a dentil frieze that also acts as the lintel for the second-floor windows. The building is topped with a panelled parapet and stone coping. It features good Free Style cast iron area railings and gates, along with a side entrance. The rear elevation has a simpler giant arcade treatment.
