Description
Numbers 18, 20, and 22 comprise three terraced houses dating from the late 18th century, and which have been altered since their original construction. The houses are built of darkened stock brick, with stucco to the ground floor in parts between the shopfronts. They are four storeys high, with basements. Each house has three windows, although number 20 has an additional blind window, and number 22 has a single-window return frontage to Tottenham Street.
Number 18 features a bowed wooden shopfront, where the glazing has been altered, and an enriched entablature. This is flanked by square-headed house and shop doorways, with consoles supporting the entablature. Above the doors are rectangular fanlights, the house entrance having a radial pattern. The house doors are panelled, and the shop door is half-glazed. The windows are architraved, recessed 4-pane sashes, with a continuous moulded sill band above a stucco panel at the second floor level. A plain stucco band runs along the cornice level. The interior has not been inspected. Attached cast-iron railings are present to the area.
Number 20 has a similar bowed wooden shopfront with altered glazing and an enriched entablature, flanked by square-headed house and shop doorways with consoles supporting the entablature. There are rectangular fanlights, the house entrance having a radial pattern, and panelled doors; the shop door is half-glazed. A window to the right of the house door has C20 glazing. The rest of the windows are architraved, recessed 4-pane sashes. An added stucco cornice is present. The interior has not been inspected. Attached cast-iron railings are present to the area.
Number 22 is on the corner and has a wooden double shopfront with an enriched entablature that breaks forward over the entrance. The shop windows and doorway have been altered, and early 20th-century double doors, half-glazed with small panels and cast metal enrichment, now occupy the entrance. The house doorway is round-arched, with stucco pilasters and archivolt, a radial fanlight, and a panelled door. To the right of the house door is an architraved, recessed window with C20 glazing. Other windows are architraved, recessed sashes, some retaining original glazing bars. A plain stucco band is present at the cornice level. The interior has not been inspected. Attached cast-iron railings are present to the area.
