Description
79 Dean Street is a terrace house that forms a pair with No. 78, built around 1730, likely by Thomas Richmond. The building is constructed of stock brick and has a slate roof. It stands four storeys tall, with the top floor being an early 19th-century addition. The facade is three windows wide. The ground floor features a door with six fielded panels to the right, set within an architrave case that has moulded consoles and a cornice, alongside a 20th-century shop front for the rest of the ground floor. The first and second floors have recessed sash windows without glazing bars, which are placed under segmental red brick arches and have red brick dressings. The later attic storey also has recessed sashes, but these are under flat gauged arches. The building has a parapet with coping. Inside, there are some surviving features similar to those in No. 78, including panelling and cornices, as well as a dog leg staircase with a cut string and twisted balusters, although the bottom flight is missing. The flank walls of Nos. 80 and 81, both built in the mid-20th century, have reset stone tablets inscribed with "Richard Buildings, 1732."
