Description
This is a row of six houses, numbered 2 to 10, located on Chesham Street in the City of Westminster. They were built in the early to mid-19th century. The houses are constructed of stucco, with the roofs hidden from view. Numbers 2 and 10 project slightly forward, featuring rusticated quoins. The row is four storeys high, although number 2 is three windows wide, with a rounded corner and return to the left. The ground floor is characterised by channelling. Each house originally had four windows, though number 2 has three. The houses feature unfluted Doric porches and a continuous balustraded balcony on the first floor. The windows are rectangular-headed, with architraves. Most windows are sash windows, although the first floor windows are French casements, and all have glazing bars. Cornices are present above the first and second floor windows. A console cornice sits above the third floor, and originally there were balustraded parapets (these have been removed from number 8). Area railings are present. Number 2, with its angled facade, faces towards and helps to screen the view south from Chesham Place. The west side of Chesham Street falls within the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea.
